Beach
Penthouse
by Peter Ivens

A project in a dreamy location like this doesn’t come by often: on the beach, looking out to the sea and dunes. The penthouse rises up like a beacon of light from these natural elements, with large glass windows all around establishing a connection with the dunes and the sea behind them. The floorplan was retought and the kitchen moved to the southwest to make the most of the afternoon sun. The connection to the sea is palpable throughout, including in the bedrooms of the rear, because of the floor plan’s central axis. The transition between inside, outside feels organic thanks to the materials used , including the rubble masonry from the Gobertange quarry, in a colour that is very similar to that of the dunes and sand. The design, meanwhile, was inspired by element that stand the test of time: the custom interiors were made from palisander, stainless steel and natural stone and combined with upholstered walls and solid elm furniture crafted by artisans.
